Instructions Following - Radiofrequency Ablation
- The aim is to block the nerve associated with the intervertebral joint, through the use of heat from the high-frequency alternating current, in an attempt to reduce pain for several months. This procedure is usually done after the patient has had a positive response to the injection into the intervertebral joint or nerve block. The procedure is performed under X-ray control.
- Plan to spend a quiet day and evening after the procedure. DO NOT try to do things you were unable to do before the procedure.
- You may experience an increase in pain or pressure for 1-2 days after the injection. You should notice a decrease in your pain in approximately 3-5 days. However, some people do not experience pain relief for 10-14 days.
- You should be using a heating pad or ice pack for any increases discomfort. You may alternate between heat and ice. Be sure to leave the heating pad or ice pack on for 15 minutes each time, waiting an additional 15 minutes before using it again. DO NOT SLEEP WITH HOT OR ICE PACKS.

Instructions Following - Epidural Steroid Injection
- The Epidural Steroid Injection is used to decrease inflammation at the nerve root. Inflammation can be caused by arthritic conditions in the spine along with disc injuries. Anti-inflammatory steroids are injected close to the nerve root where the irritation is. By reducing inflammation at the nerve root, the patient should experience a decrease in their pain.
- Plan to spend a quiet day and evening after the procedure. DO NOT try to do things you were unable to do before the procedure.

Instructions Following - Facet Joint Injections
- Facet Joint Injections are used to decrease inflammation of the facet joints. Facet joints are the small joints of the vertebrae on the spine. The facet joint injection is both diagnostic and therapeutic. If a patient responds favorably to the facet joint injection then this confirms a diagnosis of facet joint inflammation. A local anesthetic combined with an anti-inflammatory steroid medication is injected into the joints using x-ray guidance.
- Plan to spend a quiet day and evening after the procedure. DO NOT try to do things you were unable to do before the procedure.

Instructions Following - BOTOX® Injections
- Botox®/Dysport Injections allow therapy to be targeted to specific problem muscles, not possible with existing medications. Botox®/Dysport can be used to reduce muscle tension involved with chronic headaches, neck aches and back pain. It can also be used to reduce spasticity or excessive muscular contractions to relieve pain, assist in posture and walking, and allow increased range of motion.

Instructions Following - Lumbar Sympathetic Nerve Block
- The Lumbar Sympathetic Nerve Block is performed when there is inflammation, irritation or injury to the sympathetic nerve. This usually presents with pain in the lower extremity. By injecting a local anesthetic, inflammation, irritation or injury should decrease, thereby reducing the patient’s pain. The injection is performed using x-ray guidance. This injection is used for therapeutic and diagnostic purposes.

Instructions Following - Spinal Cord Stimulator Trial
Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS) is an advanced treatment for certain types of chronic pain used when other therapies have failed in offering lasting pain relief. Electrode leads are placed over the spinal cord (in the epidural space) and connected to a programmable device which provides stimulation to the leads. When the power source is turned on, the electrodes on the leads will stimulate specific nerve fibers that affect the areas of your pain. The stimulation of the targeted nerves is intended to change how the pain is perceived. Instead of feeling pain, a different sensation is felt in areas that normally hurt. Most patients say this new sensation feels like tingling. For some patients, SCS is a way to regain their quality of life and return to a more normal lifestyle.
- Keep bandages intact and dry
- Sponge bathe only while leads are in place
- Do not drive
- Call MD immediately if you have:
- Extremity Weakness
- Fever or chills
- Marked elevation in back or neck pain

ACTIVITY:
- Do not drive for (24) Twenty-four hours after your procedure.
- Do not perform activities that require prolonged sitting, bending or lifting.
- You may experience increased discomfort for the next (24) twenty-four hours.
- Bed rest may be necessary. You may gradually resume activity as your discomfort subsides.
DIET:
