What does Connecticut Pain Solutions specialize in?

Connecticut Pain Solutions is a dual-specialty practice in Wallingford and Ridgefield, CT, combining Neurology and Interventional Pain Management under one roof. Dr. Igor Turok is board-certified in both disciplines, allowing him to diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions — from chronic back and neck pain to peripheral neuropathy, migraine, osteoarthritis, and complex neurological disorders. We also offer a full suite of regenerative therapies including PRP, bone marrow concentrate, and adipose stem cell therapy.

What is interventional pain management?

Interventional pain management uses minimally invasive procedures — such as nerve blocks, epidural steroid injections, joint injections, radiofrequency ablation, and spinal cord stimulation — to diagnose and treat the specific anatomical or neurological source of chronic pain. Unlike medication-only approaches, these techniques target the pain generator directly, often providing longer-lasting relief with fewer systemic side effects.

How is Dr. Turok different from other pain management doctors?

Dr. Turok holds dual board certification in Neurology and Interventional Pain Management — a combination held by very few physicians nationwide. This means he evaluates pain from both a structural and a neurological perspective, identifying underlying causes that other providers may miss. He has performed over one million interventional procedures and more than 10,000 regenerative treatments, including extensive work with PRP and stem cell therapy pioneered through his experience treating professional athletes.

What types of pain does Connecticut Pain Solutions treat?

We treat virtually all types of chronic and complex pain, including back pain, neck pain, sciatica, headache and migraine, knee pain, shoulder pain, elbow pain, hip pain, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, peripheral neuropathy, complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), cancer-related pain, and more. Visit our Types of Pain page for a full list of conditions treated.

What is PRP therapy and what conditions can it treat?

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy involves drawing a small sample of your blood, concentrating the healing platelets through centrifugation, and injecting the resulting growth-factor-rich plasma into the area of injury or degeneration. PRP promotes natural tissue repair, reduces inflammation, and can slow or reverse degenerative processes. At Connecticut Pain Solutions, PRP is used for osteoarthritis, tendon injuries, rotator cuff conditions, hair restoration, spinal pain, and more. Learn more on our PRP page.

What is the difference between PRP, bone marrow concentrate, and adipose stem cell therapy?

All three are regenerative therapies that use your body’s own biological materials to promote healing. PRP uses growth factors from your blood’s platelets. Bone marrow concentrate (BMC) uses stem cells harvested from your pelvis, which have the ability to regenerate cartilage, bone, and soft tissue. Adipose stem cell therapy uses mesenchymal stem cells harvested from your body fat, which are available in large quantities and maintain consistent function across age. The appropriate choice depends on your condition, its severity, and your overall health.

How do I know if I’m a candidate for regenerative therapy?

The best way to determine candidacy is through a consultation with Dr. Turok. In general, regenerative therapies are well-suited for patients with joint pain from osteoarthritis or injury, tendon conditions, or chronic musculoskeletal pain who have not achieved adequate relief from conservative measures. Certain medical conditions, medications (especially blood thinners), and health factors may affect eligibility. Dr. Turok will review your history and imaging to determine the most appropriate approach.

Does Connecticut Pain Solutions perform neurological testing?

Yes. We offer a full range of neurological diagnostic testing in-house, including electromyography (EMG), nerve conduction studies (NCS), electroencephalography (EEG), and videonystagmography (VNG). These tests allow Dr. Turok to accurately diagnose conditions including peripheral neuropathy, carpal tunnel syndrome, radiculopathy, epilepsy, and balance disorders — without requiring a separate specialist visit. Learn more on our Neurological Testing page.

What should I expect at my first appointment?

At your first visit to Connecticut Pain Solutions, Dr. Turok will take a detailed medical history, conduct a physical and neurological examination, and review any prior imaging or test results you bring. You will discuss your symptoms thoroughly, including how they affect your daily life and what treatments you have already tried. Based on this evaluation, Dr. Turok will recommend a diagnostic and treatment plan and answer all of your questions. Please plan to arrive a few minutes early to complete paperwork.

Do I need a referral to be seen at Connecticut Pain Solutions?

In most cases, a referral is not required. We welcome new patients directly. If your insurance requires a referral, we recommend checking with your insurance provider beforehand. To schedule, call (203) 626-9080 - Wallingford Office or (203) 724-9290 - Ridgefield Office or book online. Please bring your insurance card, any prior imaging, and notes from previous treating physicians.

Does Connecticut Pain Solutions accept insurance?

We accept most major insurance plans. Coverage for specific procedures varies depending on your plan and the nature of the treatment. We recommend calling our office at (203) 626-9080 - Wallingford Office or (203) 724-9290 - Ridgefield Office to verify coverage for your specific situation before your first visit. Note that some regenerative procedures, including PRP and stem cell therapy, are typically not covered by insurance and are offered on a self-pay basis.

What is radiofrequency ablation and how long does it last?

Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) uses heat generated by radiofrequency energy to disable the specific nerve transmitting your pain — preventing it from sending pain signals to the brain. It is most commonly used for spinal facet joint pain, sacroiliac joint pain, and knee pain from osteoarthritis. Relief typically lasts 6 to 24 months, after which the nerve may regenerate. A repeat procedure can restore relief, and some patients find the pain does not return at all. Learn more on our Radiofrequency Ablation page.

What is Botox used for at Connecticut Pain Solutions?

At Connecticut Pain Solutions, Botox (botulinum toxin) is used therapeutically for chronic migraine (the only FDA-approved indication), spasticity, cervical dystonia, blepharospasm, hemifacial spasm, and neuropathic pain. Botox works by temporarily relaxing overactive muscles, reducing muscle tension and the pain it generates. Treatments are repeated approximately every three months as needed. Learn more on our Botox page.

What are hormone replacement therapy pellets and who are they for?

Bio-identical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) using pellets is a natural alternative to synthetic hormone treatments. Pellets made from plant-based estradiol or testosterone are inserted under the skin and release hormones consistently over five to six months. This therapy is beneficial for women experiencing menopause symptoms and men with low testosterone (hypogonadism). Learn more on our HRT page.

What is IV Vitamin Infusion Therapy?

IV Vitamin Infusion Therapy delivers fluids, vitamins, minerals, and medications directly into the bloodstream, bypassing the digestive system for 100% bioavailability. Connecticut Pain Solutions offers a custom Vitamin Infusion Bar Menu formulated by Dr. Turok, with cocktails designed for energy restoration, immune support, athletic recovery, hydration, and weight management. We also offer specialty medication infusions for chronic pain and neurological conditions under Dr. Turok’s direct supervision. Learn more on our IV Medication Infusion page.

What is the Pronox system and will I need sedation for procedures?

Pronox™ is a patient-controlled inhaled analgesia system delivering a 50/50 mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen. It helps reduce anxiety and mild to moderate discomfort during procedures — without IV sedation. Most procedures at Connecticut Pain Solutions are performed with local anesthesia while you remain awake and responsive. Pronox is available for patients who experience anxiety or low pain tolerance. Effects wear off within minutes of stopping use.
